My Wife's Furry Light Brown Carpet
Dave Ramsey always talks about never paying retail and always buying only big, big bargains. My wife and I thought we would put that to the test last week when purchasing a carpet remnant for the basement. After reading Dave's chapter on negotiationing the best price. I felt armed and ready to do a win-win negotiation with the folks at the carpet store.
We went to the carpet store with a certain dollar figure in mind to pay for the remnant and I planned to "flash the cash" as Dave says and get the best deal possible.
As we happened upon the style and color we wanted, I began to think about the retail price and how much below that price I thought the store may be willing to go. I made my offer with a fist full of $20s and it was accepted!! I couldn't believe it!!
My first try was successful. I can't wait to try and purchase everything this way. I tend to get carried away with something when I like to do it. I go at it full bore. My father always had a saying "Go at it all ass or no ass at all, not half assed." I will surely go at my purchases all ass now and try to negotiate everything. My next attempt at this will be for a Futon for the basement. I am going to try to get that thing at a discount. I can't wait to save the money for my tires and negotiate a better deal on those too. One day, an automobile with $100 bills on the car hood counted out very slowly and methodically for effect. Man that sounds fun.
By the way, day 197 without charging and no desire to charge. My wife is even saying things like "Let's start a furniture envelope and an envelope for a deck around the pool." Man is that exciting. Debt freedom is going to be fantastic.
