Keeping His Balance

Well, my son Mickey was finally able to do it. After trying all last summer and this spring, he was finally able to learn to ride his bike without training wheels yesterday. We went out at about 9:45 am and by 10:30, he was riding 20 yards at a time without having the need for me to hold on to his bike. I had even called one of his friends from kindergarten who does ride to come and provide some inspiration, but by the time his friend showed up, he was already doing it by himself.

Learning to ride the bike is one of those milestone events that every child must go through. For the child, it means they are becoming a little more independent. For the parent, it means I'm yet a little closer to losing my little boy. With each day that passes, he is getting older and more independent. Here are some pictures of his first solo ride.

A bike helmet? Forget that. He needs to wipe out and maybe even jump some ramps. Maybe he can spray paint an "01" on his chain guard.
